MCP connection and tools
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets your coding agent call Fluxzero tools. The agent plugin configures one local fluxzero-dev connection for documentation and development feedback. Its capabilities depend on the selected project and running Dev Server version.
Connection
Section titled “Connection”The plugin runs fz mcp. For a manually configured MCP client, use the executable fz with these arguments:
mcp --project-dir /absolute/path/to/your/projectThis is a stdio server: the client launches it and communicates over standard input/output. The path must exist on the machine running the process. Verify fz mcp --help there. Do not wrap the command in Maven or another launcher that writes build output into the protocol stream.
Tool groups
Section titled “Tool groups”| Group | Purpose | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
Versioned documentation, docs_* | Select SDK version, find symbols and read focused articles | Available without starting the app; selected from the project’s version |
get_workflow | Read current development, preview, monitoring and progress guidance | Explains the workflow supported by that server version |
| Status and problems | Find the current project, services, build state and failures | Inspect the active environment and its diagnostics |
start_dev and lifecycle tools | Start/reuse or control development | Can start processes or change local environment state |
| Tests and progress | Inspect scenarios and recorded work; update work through supported tools | Read operations and mutations have different effects |
| Monitoring | Investigate messages, logs, traces, issues, documents and measurements | Available when exposed by the running environment and its permissions |
Use the connection’s live tool catalogue for exact names, inputs and availability. A project pinned to an older server can have a different tool surface; this page is not a substitute for those schemas.
Documentation version versus runtime version
Section titled “Documentation version versus runtime version”Dev Server version
CLI + plugin
These versions need not have the same number. Match each component to the project rather than assuming one update changes them all.
A useful startup check is: correct directory → correct SDK documentation → supported workflow → status → start/reuse environment → inspect readiness. Seeing a gateway URL does not prove the application has finished compiling or starting.
When the connection does not work
Section titled “When the connection does not work”| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
fz is not found | CLI installation and the client process’s PATH; verify in a fresh terminal |
| Package installed, no tools | Client activation/reload and enabled MCP connection |
| Docs work, project tools unavailable | Whether the project has a running environment; call start_dev when needed |
| Unexpected project or documentation | Selected directory, SDK dependency and explicit version overrides |
| App unavailable | Status, problems, startup results and required services; avoid a second build loop |
| Production evidence unavailable | Whether a supported, authorized production connection exists; local tools do not imply that access |
See the plugin source and Dev Server reference for the owning implementation and current workflow contracts.
