Install and update
Install the fz command with your platform’s package manager or the official installer. For setup through your coding agent, follow Set up your agent.
-
Install the CLI
Section titled “Install the CLI”With Homebrew available:
Terminal window brew install fluxzero-io/tap/fluxzeroHomebrew installs
fzand itsfluxzeroalias. To update later:Terminal window brew updatebrew upgrade fluxzeroUse WinGet in PowerShell or Windows Terminal:
Terminal window winget install --exact --id Fluxzero.FluxzeroCLITo update later:
Terminal window winget upgrade --exact --id Fluxzero.FluxzeroCLIWithout WinGet, use the native assets or installer from the official release page.
Use the official installer:
Terminal window curl -sSL https://github.com/fluxzero-io/fluxzero-cli/releases/latest/download/install.sh | shFollow its PATH instructions for
~/.fluxzero/bin, then open a new terminal. Manual native assets are available on the release page. -
Verify the environment
Section titled “Verify the environment”The native CLI itself does not need Java. The Dev Server and SDK 2.x projects require Java 25; use Java 25.0.3 or newer for SDK development. Check the project’s README for any frontend or example prerequisites.
In a new terminal, run:
Terminal window fz versionfz mcp --helpjava -versionThe first command should identify the CLI; the second should show MCP options. The Java command should identify a suitable JDK when you are going to run development. The native CLI, the legacy JAR distribution and a project’s build tools have different requirements; use the native distribution for a new installation.
If the terminal finds
fzbut the agent does not, check the agent application’s PATH and refresh its plugin/MCP session after setup. Do not add a second MCP registration to compensate for an installation that is not active yet. See MCP troubleshooting.Installation checkedThe terminal finds fz, MCP help is available, and the development prerequisites match the project.
Update the intended component
Section titled “Update the intended component”| Change | What to do |
|---|---|
| CLI installed by a package manager | Use that package manager’s upgrade command |
| CLI installed directly | Use fz upgrade and check fz version afterwards |
| Dev Server | Review the available update and project pin, then restart the environment when local state may safely be replaced |
| SDK | Change the project’s dependency/BOM version deliberately and verify its application tests |
| Agent plugin | Update through the client’s plugin mechanism, then activate the updated package |
A full environment restart can replace ephemeral local state. Save code changes and establish which profile and services are involved first. Keep the installation method consistent: multiple fz binaries on PATH can make the terminal and agent use different versions.
Remove a package-manager installation
Section titled “Remove a package-manager installation”Use brew uninstall fluxzero on Homebrew or winget uninstall --exact --id Fluxzero.FluxzeroCLI on WinGet. This removes the CLI package; it is not a request to delete your repositories. Stop development environments you no longer need before removing their launcher. For direct installations and cache locations, use the CLI installation reference.
